About Us

The Lodge has four good sized bedrooms. Three rooms have a queen and single bed and one room has two king singles. All have adjoining bathrooms. There are heat pumps in all rooms and electric blankets on all beds.

The Lodge is completely self contained with a modern, fully equiped kitchen, dining area and lounge all in an open plan layout.


The Cottage adjoining the Lodge has three bedrooms with a total of nine beds, There are two doubles and seven singles with bunks inclusive.There is one bathroom and a washing machine available as well.



Both the Lodge and Cottage are fully supplied with linen and serviced everyday.

Ribbonwood Station is located 13 miles (21 km) from the small South Island town of Fairlie, the "Gateway To The Mackenzie Coutry". It's a scenic 2.5 hour drive south of Christchurch International Airport and on the main route to Tekapo and Queenstown. (Map here)


We are easy to find and we are sure you will enjoy staying at a working high country station. It is very peaceful, has beautiful scenery and is a perfect location to escape from the city and enjoy nature!

The MacKenzie Basin is an area of many attractions with a wide range of things to do and see. There is hunting (red & fallow deer, tahr, chamois and wild rams), trout and salmon fishing, hiking and horse treking . We have three ski fields within a 45min drive at Foxes Peak, Roundhill and Dobson. There are hot pools, ice skating rinks and massages. You should also visit the very scenic Lake Tekapo, The Church of the Good Shepherd at Lake Tekapo is one of the most photgraphed places in the New Zealand.  A little further on and from the shores of Lake Pukaki you can see Mount Cook, New Zealand's highest Mountain. A drive up the west side of the lake will take you to Mount Cook National Park village where you can enjoy the most spectacular scenery.


Geraldine with it's many local craft shops and the city of Timaru are an easy day trip. Lake Opuha is very close by and good for fishing and water skiing and swimming. Or one can simply relax here, enjoy the peace and quiet, the panoramic views, sip a wine or coffee on the verandah and maybe spot a wild deer.

Please note:

Due to NZ health and safety regulations,we are unable to host children under the age of 12 years.
Check-in is at 2.00 PM and check-out at 10..00 AM.
No pets are allowed as this is a work environment and a fully operational high country station.
No smoking allowed inside but you are more than welcome to smoke outside.
